{"id":7295,"date":"2025-09-21T17:47:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-21T16:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mkbasketball.club\/?p=7295"},"modified":"2025-09-21T20:51:27","modified_gmt":"2025-09-21T19:51:27","slug":"breakers-fall-to-rockets-in-trophy-opener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mkbasketball.club\/2025\/09\/21\/breakers-fall-to-rockets-in-trophy-opener\/","title":{"rendered":"Breakers fall to Rockets in Trophy Opener"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>MK Breakers got their season officially underway on Saturday, going down <a href=\"https:\/\/fibalivestats.dcd.shared.geniussports.com\/u\/HBBC\/2723347\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">77-82<\/a> at the hands of COB Rockets in their opening game of the BCB Trophy competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Coach Ben Stanley and the team had worked hard all week, and those efforts paid off from the outset as Breakers exploded out of the blocks. Smothering defence and dominant rebounding saw them jump into a 10-0 lead, forcing the visitors to burn an early timeout after just 2:15 of action.<\/p>\n<p>That served to halt Breakers\u2019 momentum and allow the Rockets back into the game, but it would take until midway through the second quarter before they managed to take the lead.<\/p>\n<p>After half time the game would remain in the balance, Breakers putting good spells together but a combination of their own missed shots and turnovers as well as some relentless rebounding from COB allowed the Rockets to keep it close.<\/p>\n<p>It would remain a finely balanced game, but \u2013 despite a superb performance from Chris Tawiah who weighed in with 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks \u2013 the visitors eventually won 77-82, much to the dismay of Breakers\u2019 Head Coach Ben Stanley.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cObviously we\u2019re disappointed with our performance,\u201d<\/em> he said. <em>\u201cCredit to Birmingham who I thought played harder and were more cohesive than us. Chris stepped up to the task, but in the coming weeks we\u2019ve got to become mentally tougher as a group and play more as a unit if we are to be successful moving forwards.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They get an opportunity to do just that next weekend, where a double-header of Trophy games awaits.
